The third biennial Language Expo, organised by the National Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia will be staged in Brisbane this July.

The aim of the Expo is to provide a forum where all those involved in the design and delivery of language education can share their experiences, demonstrate current methods, explore new developments and discuss common issues for the present and the future.

The first NLLIA Language Expo was held in Melbourne in November 1992 and drew more than 5000 participants. In Sydney in July 1994, the Expo achieved a broader audience and in¬creased numbers to almost 8000. Plans are now well in hand for the third Language Expo to be held in Brisbane in July 1996 with an anticipated attendance of 10,000.

After the success of their display in Sydney. FATSIL representatives are hoping once again to offer a stimulating and informative presentation to visitors. This display will be attended by FATSIL chairperson Elizabeth Smith, as well as a representative from each state. Visitors will learn of new initiatives and developments in the broad range of Aboriginal and Islander Language programs throughout the country.

Language Centres wishing to contribute are invited to contact Ysola Best on 07 3807 8933.

The 1994 NLLIA Language Expo in Sydney drew a crowd of almost 8000. Two people who travelled from opposite ends of the country to attend were Rhonda Agius, from Port Adelaide and Alberta Gibson (standing) from Hopevale in North Qld.
