Members of the Torres Strait Islander Language Management Program have chosen to conduct their operations through a State-wide governing committee rather than establish a new language centre for the region.

Looking to make most effective use of limited ATSILIP funds, the group's administration will be carried out from the Magani Malu Kes Resource and Information Centre in Townsville. The Committee will not be employing full time staff nor acting as a community resource centre, therefore increasing the funds available to conduct language projects. The State Consultative Committee for Torres Strait Islander Language Maintenance is made up of two representatives from each of the state's five regions, as well as representatives from FATSI1 and Magani Malu Kes, the sponsoring body to the Language Program.

The committee members are:

Brisbane:
Mr Ted Ruben
Mr Albert Bowie

Rockhampton:
Mrs Katherine Thomas Mr Kailu George

Mackay:
Mr Benny Bennyfather Mr Sawee Bero

Townsville:
Mr Dana Ober Mr Lloyd Maza

Cairns:
Mr Ricky Guivarra Ms Maureen Newie

FATSIL:
Mr Francis Tapim
Magani Malu Kes: Mr Elemo Tapim

Program coordinator Ella Kris carries out administrative duties for the Committee. Her position will also involve the establishment of library resources and production of a language newsletter. Ella is responsible for liaison with consultants, FATSIL representatives, government and private institutions and individual participants in language related activities.
