The Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE, Cairns campus, is offering an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enrol in a Certificate 111 in Indigenous Australian Language Studies.

This course is ideal for people employed as language workers in their community, and for other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people interested in working on the revival and maintenance of their traditional languages.


The Certificate course will be offered on a part-time basis only this year, and commences on the 11th May.
Studies can be undertaken from home or a community base, with a requirement to attend four residentials
(usually held at the Cairns Campus.) The Certificate can be completed within seven months.


The course modules include
•    Indigenous Australian
•    Language Studies
•    Introduction to Linguistics
•    Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Studies
•    Computer Operations
•    Research and Study Skills
•    Grammar of Indigenous Australian languages
•    Fieldwork


The completion of the Certificate entitles students to then progress to highter Certificate and Diploma levels.
