Language Access Initiatives Program PDF Print E-mail

WELL it's nearly that time of year again! ATSIC will soon be advertising nationally, seeking submissions under the Language Access Initiatives Program for the 2000/01 and 2001/02 financial years.

THE LAIP was developed in response to recommendations of the Human Rights and Equal opportunity Commission Bringing Them Home Report. Through the LAIP the ATSIC Board has allocated a total of $9 million over three years, beginning 1999/ 2000 towards language maintenance and revival activities.

ATSIC was impressed by the high quality and quantity of applications received under the 1999/2000 submission process with over 100 funding proposals totalling $29 million being received nationally. Of these, 51 projects covering a diverse range of language initiatives were supported for funding.

Grant submission kits and the LAIP funding guidelines will be available from all ATSIC Regional and State Offices from January 2000.
