THE Collins Review of Indigenous Education in the Northern Territory can be viewed on the Internet at "Learning Lessons"

The findings are based on information gathered through 106 formal submissions, public hearings in Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs, visits to forty- four schools, 126 interviews and forty forums involving a wide range of individuals and organisations.

The review was commissioned to establish

  • The views and educational aspirations of indigenous parents and community members in relation to their children's schooling, with particular reference to English literacy and numeracy
  • The key issues affecting educational outcomes for indigenous children
  • Supportable actions for educational outcome improvements.

Among the recommendations from the review are a number relating to `two-way learning' programs and ESL ILSS — English as Second Language for Indigenous Language Speaking Students.
