Mununjali man Shane Paulseri summed up the emotion as he felt as he proudly ran the Olympic flame through the main sreet of Beaudesert in South East Queensland on 11 June this year, saying he ran with the spirit of all Australians

With noisy support from family, friends and community, Shane joined the team of Olympic Torch runners who carried the flame on its journey around Australia. Shane was thrilled when told that he had been selected to take part in the torch relay, but was particularly proud to be given the main leg of the run, which took him through the business centre of the town.

Describing his feelings after finishing the run, Shane was overwhelmed at the emotion generated from the crowd." I was carrying the torch for my people, the Mununjali people of Beaudesert, but I was also carrying it for all Australians," he said. "I believe that the spirit of Australians, black and white, was with us through that torch, and that is what the people around us could feel." The Mununjali people are in the Yugumbeh language region.
