Second Queensland meeting to firm up policy planning PDF Print E-mail

Queensland language delegates are working to develop a coordinated approach to the support of Indigenous Language programs throughout the state, utilizing the network of language project teams.

The expected outcomes from the June Brisbane meeting are:

  • Developing a model for a coordinated approach to the preservation and promotion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages for Queensland communities, with the aim of offering assistance and support to new programs and promoting the achievements of established projects.
  • The establishment of a State Advisory Committee for the Queensland Indigenous Languages Framework, with representation from Indigenous Community members and stakeholder agencies.
  • Drafting a strategy to progress the framework development.
  • Establishing a timeline for future action.

The Queensland Government has previously expressed its support for the proposal in response to approaches by FATSIL to the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs.
