VOLUME 32

Greg McKellar OAM

Yandha Uandharla Gundi kundi "talking on the breeze or wind".
In typically modest fashion, Greg McKellar thought of others who share his passion for language revival after being recognized in Australia Day Honours list.

"It's about time that our people are acknowledged for the work they do in preserving the national treasure, not just for our people, but for all Australians. That comes from the dedication of our language people. It's a living culture that wasn't being practiced. It was restiong and we awakened it."

World Indegenous People's Conference on Education in NZ

"The languages of Indigenous mations reverberate around the enormous keynote tent, ricocheating from wall to wall as Indigenous people gather in their thousands keen to connect and keen to learn from each other. The power of these voices, speaking in language, is lost to no-one that can truly hear them. Languages thousands of years old; languages that speak wisdom and truth, languages that were some of the first ever spoken"

Introducing the FATSIL Manager, Bill Lancaster PDF Print E-mail
Bill Lancaster
Bill Lancaster
I am an Australian of Indigenous descent - my wife Chrissie and I have four children. One of the issues my wife and I have concentrated on is the focus of our children's education. The more I become involved with Indigenous language issues, the more I believe language is the corner stone of Indigenous Identity for our youth. Language subjects during school years can be a means for our kids to gain/maintain a sense of their cultural identity and to continue an interest in their studies towards that all important education. With greater awareness of indigenous languages in this country, I believe that the level of recognition of Indigenous Australians by non-indigenous Australians will increase and as a result - our Indigenous culture will survive.
