The FATSILC Languages Forum and Annual General Meeting was held on Yugambeh country on the Gold Coast, Queensland, on October the 29th and 30th, 2008. The theme of this year’s Forum was ‘Same Kinship, Different Languages’. Paul Herbert, FATSILC National Manager, delivered the opening address and talked about the challenges facing FATSILC for the year ahead. He highlighted the work being done by FATSILC to build working relationships with government and key ministers such as Jenny Macklin, Minister for Indigenous Affairs, and Peter Garret, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts.

Other speakers included; Troy Dann, who talked about using animation to express language stories to school kids, Susan Boucher, who outlined the ‘Dare to Lead’ initiative that focuses on better educational outcomes for Indigenous students, and Barbara McGillivray and Eddie Chisolm from FATSILC who facilitated a workshop on the importance of the kinship system.
